Our Local Volunteer Fire Crews
When we have an accident, or is the house is on fire, or if someones heart stops beating, who do we call ?
We dial 111 and try to remain calm as we talk to the person on the other end of the call.
But who responds ? In the middle of the night or the middle of the day, in summer or winter, snow, rain or sunshine ?
The local Ashhurst Volunteer Fire Brigade does. For fires, for car accidents, for medical support, for resuces, for support of other fire brigades.
Have we really thought about that ?
Many years ago, the Parish of Pohangina pledged to stop, remember those that respond, and PRAY!
PRAY for their safety - they do this because they want to, not because they have to.
PRAY for their families - as they deal with the disruption the fire crew response leaves in their lives at home.
PRAY for peace as they respond - that God's peace will be with them and they comfort and help those in need.
PRAY for wisdom - that they may know how best to respond to difficult situations.
PRAY for God's guidance - that God's hands may direct thier actions.
PRAY for knowledge - that thjey may know things beyond their understanding.
And finally
PRAY FOR LOVE. That they may know that God is with them as they perform their duties, and as they recover from each incident, that His love for them may reduce the memories and effects of what they see and deal with.
We thank these men and women for their service and include our local Police Officers as they often respond to the same call-out. May God bless them for their service and may they know Gods presence when they respond to the call.
