Prayers We Use In Some Of Our Services

We are a church that believes God answers prayer, which is what Jesus taught us during His ministry.  Prayer and counseling is available to all who come to worship with us.  The 'prayer chain ladies' pray faithfully for situations that are made known to them.  These are some of the prayers we use in our services Sunday mornings.

Prayer for Purity

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden; cleanse the thoughts of our heartsby the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, so that we may truly love youand worthily praise your name; through our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen

The Gloria

Glory to God in the Highest, and peace to God's people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.  Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, we have sinned in what we have thought and said, in the wrong we have done, in the good we have not done. We have sinned in weakness, we have sinned in ignorance, we have sinned though our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry. We repent and turn to you. Forgive us, for our Saviour Christ's sake, and renew our lives to the glory or you name.
Amen

Absolution(declared by the Priest)

Through the cross of Christ, God have mercy on you, pardon you, and set you free. Know that your sins are forgiven and be at peace. God strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you until life eternal.
Amen.

The Nicene Creed(The Affirmation of Faith)  - Our core belief

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is,
seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,  begotten, not made,
of one being with the Father;
Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation
He came down from heaven,
Was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became fully human.
For out sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day He rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
He ascended into heaven
and is seated on the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge
the living and the dead,
and his Kingdom will have no end.

We Believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who is in unity with the Father and the Son,
is worshipped and glorified,
and has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

The Lords Prayer

(what Jesus taught us
the common / modern version)

Our Father in Heaven,
  hallowed be thy name,
  your kingdom come,
  Your will be done,
    on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
  and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
  now and for ever.  Amen

The Lords Prayer

(the older version from the book of
 Common Prayer - Evening Prayer)

Our Father, which art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
in earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power and the glory,

For ever and ever.  Amen

Prayer of Humble Access(a pre communion prayer)

We do not presume to come to your holy table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your great mercy. We are not worthy even to gather the crumbs from under your table. But you are the same Lord whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the body of your dear Son, Jesus Christ, and to drink His blood, that we may evermore dwell in Him and He in us.
Amen.

Prayer for our country

God of the Southern seaand of these islands, of Maori, Pakeha and of all who dwell in our land; we give you thanks and praise for our country, and for what we have achieved together. Increase our trust in one another; strengthen our quest for justice, and bring to unity and a common purpose. You have made us of one blood; make us also of one mind.
Amen.

Prayer for Peace

O God,it is your will to hold both heaven and earth in a single peace. Let the design of your great loveshine on the waste of our wraths and sorrows, and give peace to your church, peace among nations, peace in our homes, and peace in our hearts.
Amen.

The Grace
May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with you all, now and forever.
Amen.
